Stephen King's Sleepwalkers (1992)

No. 21 Stephen King's Sleepwalkers

Plot Outline: A mother-and-son team of strange supernatural creatures come to town to seek out a virgin to feed on.

Tag Line: They feast on your fear - and it's dinner time.

Trivia: The house of the Sleepwalkers is the same one used in the TV series "The Waltons" (1972).

The actors who play Tanya's mom and dad, Cindy Pickett and Lyman Ward were also the mom and dad in Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986); in real life they are married to each other.

Famous horror directors that make a cameo appearances in this movie:
Cameo: [John Landis] Lab technician.
Cameo: [Stephen King] The graveyard caretaker.
Cameo: [Joe Dante] Lab assistant.
Cameo: [Tobe Hooper] Forensic technician.
Cameo: ['Clive Barker' ] Forensic technician.

Quotes: Charles Brady: This doesn't have to hurt. Just think of yourself as lunch! [Tanya hits him in the head with her camera] Charles Brady: I lied! It does have to hurt!

Based on an unpublished story by King this movie is actually quite good. Alicr Krige and Brian Krause star as the evil supernatural Sleepwalkers that feed on the life essence of virgins. They have the ability to change the appearance of cars and make themselves invisible. Their true form is not all that terrifying as they sort of resemble giant hairless cats. Oddly enough it is cats that they fear most. Cats can sense them and get very riled and upset when they come to town.

Madchen Amick plays sweet virginal Tonya who is on the menu. The local cops are mostly ineffective so it is up to kitty Clover to lead the Feline brigade to victory against the baddie Brady's. If you don't have a cat, you might think about getting one after this.

The Lost Boys (1987)

No. 22 The Lost Boys

Plot Outline: After moving to a new town, two brothers are convinced that the area is frequented by vampires.

Tag line: Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire

Trivia: The title of the film is a reference to the companions of Peter Pan, who remained forever young.

'David'(Kiefer Sutherland) is impaled on a pair of antlers and doesn't disintegrate like the other vampires. Despite what Max later says, he is not really dead. This was intended to be picked up in the sequel, "The Lost Girls", which was scripted but never made.

The movie didn't originally end on a joke. After the scene with Grampa at the refrigerator, it was supposed to cut to the surviving Lost Boys regrouping in the sunken hotel. The last shot was of a mural on the wall, made in the early 1900's, with Max in it - looking exactly the same as he did today. All of this appeared in an early draft of the script, but ultimately was never filmed.

Quotes: Grandpa: If you read the T.V. Guide, you don't need a T.V.

Sam Emerson: [about Star] It's that girl from the boardwalk. Is she one of them?
[Star floats up]
Sam Emerson: She's one of them! And don't tell me it doesn't make her a bad person, Mike.
For some reason blogger seems to be having issues loading my pictures so all I got is the movie poster. Oh well. The Lost Boys has pretty much an all star cast (at least at the time). A tale about trying to fit in hidden under the theme of vampires.

1st OB appointment

S.A.M. is great! They did a sonogram and boy is this kid squirmy. Looks to be the right size with all the appendages in the correct places. Heart rate was in the 160's.

Scream (1996)

No. 23 Scream

Plot Outline: A psychopathic serial killer is stalking a group of teens just like in the movies!

Tag Line: Some one's Taken Their Love Of Scary Movies One Step Too Far!

Trivia: Cameo: [Linda Blair] the reporter who says, "People want to know, they have a right to know."

When Sidney comes out of the closet and stabs Billy with an umbrella, the stunt man was supposed to hit a pad on Skeet Ulrich's chest. The first hit got the pad but the second one slipped and hit him in the chest (you can see it in his reaction). Wes Craven kept it in because of its authenticity.

To keep 'Drew Barrymore' looking scared and crying, director Wes Craven kept telling her real life stories about animal cruelty. She is a keen animal lover in real life.

Rose McGowan discovered that she could actually fit through a pet flap.

On "The Directors" (2007), David Arquette revealed that he presumptuously turned down the role of "Billy" in favor for playing "Dewey", which was originally written as a hunky, leading man part.

Quotes: Gale: Jesus, the camera, hurry!

Kenny: My name isn't Jesus.

Randy: If you were the only suspect in a senseless bloodbath - would you be standing in the horror section?

Sidney Prescott: Stu, Stu, Stu, what's your motive? Billy's got one, the police are on their way, what are you gonna tell them?

Stu: Peer pressure, I'm far too sensitive.

Stu: Did you really call the police?

Sidney Prescott: You bet your sorry ass I did.

Stu: My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me!

This movie was one of the best of it's time. So many crap flicks starring teens were running around masquerading as horror and then this gem came a long. Full of scares and funny lines it is an instant classic!

These are the horror film rules as stated in the movie:
1. You will not survive if you have sex
2. You will not survive if you drink or do drugs
3. You will not survive if you say "I'll be right back"
4. Everyone is a suspect.
Two additional rules come from the killer:
5. You will not survive if you ask "Who's there?"
6. You will not survive if you go out to investigate a strange noise.

Gremlins (1984)

No. 24 Gremlins

Plot outline: A boy inadvertently breaks 3 important rules concerning his new pet and unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous monsters on a small town.

Tag line: Don't get him wet, keep him out of bright light, and never feed him after midnight

Trivia: At the end, when the old Chinese shopkeeper comes to get Gizmo, you can hear Gizmo say, "Baba," which is Chinese for "Dad".

In Chris Columbus's original script, Lynn Peltzer was killed by the gremlins and her head rolled down the stairs. This along with several other darker elements (ie, the family dog is eaten by the gremlins, the gremlins attack a McDonald's and eat the customers but refuse to touch the hamburgers) were never shot due to the fact that both, Joe Dante and Warner Bros. wanted the movie to be more family oriented.

I have always been terrified of this film. I saw it as a child and have been forever plagued by gremlin related nightmares. My greatest fear in the dark was that gremlins were hiding under my bed waiting to eat me. To this day I am still scared of this one.

Shaun of the Dead (2004)

No. 25 Shaun of the Dead

Plot Oultine: A man decides to turn his moribund life around by winning back his ex-girlfriend, reconciling his relationship with his mother, and dealing with an entire community that has returned from the dead to eat the living
Tag line: It's just one of those days when you're feeling a little...dead

Quotes: Ed: Don't forget to kill Philip! (That is phillip above)
Barbara: [Over the phone] Some men tried to get into the house.
Shaun: Well are they still there?
Barbara: [Over the phone] I'm not sure, we've shut the curtains.

Spoofs all the greatest zombie flicks ever made. Not serious at all but hilarious. Great to break up the scares during a horror movie marathon.

Candyman (1992)

No. 26 Candyman

Plot line: An old tale says that if you say "candyman" five time whilst looking into a mirror, then "he" will appear behind you and cut you in two. The heroine of this story is writing a thesis on such tales. During her investigations, she encounters the "candyman".

Tag line: We Dare You To Say His Name Five Times!

Trivia: Sweets to the Sweet" which is written on the walls in two areas of Cabrini Green is actually a line from Shakespeare's Hamlet

Real bees were actually put into Tony Todd's mouth while they where shooting the climax. His only protection was a mouth guard that kept him from having the bees go down his throat.

The bees were breed specifically for this movie. They need to make sure that the bees were only 12 hours old so that they looked like mature bees, but at that point, the stinger isn't powerful enough to do any real damage.

The architecture flaw of the medicine chests and people being able to sneak in, is something that Bernard Rose discovered in his research for the film and there was actually a series of murders that were committed this way

Quotes: Candyman: [to Helen Lyle] You are not content with the stories, so I was obliged to come.

Candyman: The pain, I can assure you... will be exquisite. As for our deaths, there is nothing to fear. Our names will be written on a thousand walls. Our crimes told... and retold by our faithful believers. We shall die together in front of their very eyes... and give them something to be haunted by. Come with me... and be immortal.

Virginia Madsen, Vanessa Williams, Ted Raimi, and of course Tony Todd as the Candyman. Who didn't grow up hearing about Bloody Mary or Candyman? After you heard it the first time I bet you thought twice before standing in front of the mirror. I know I did. Bloody Mary was the tale I heard but Candyman is her male equal. This movie pits a non believer against the devilish entity bent of destruction. Slowly the Heroine has to admit that she was wrong about Candyman or that she is going crazy committing murders as she goes. Can't say either option sounds appealing to me.
