House on Haunted Hill (1999)

No. 27

Plot Outline: A millionaire offers a group of diverse people $1,000,000 to spend the night in a haunted house with a horrifying past.

Tag line: Evil Loves To Party.

Trivia: Famke Janssen performed her own stunt when the glass ceiling breaks. It was extremely important for Janssen to remain where she was and very still, yet even with her basically glued to the spot, the shard hit with so much impact that it bounced her head off the table as you can see on close inspection of the scene.

Quotes: Sara Wolfe: Is this house really haunted?
Watson Pritchett: [near hysterics] It's uh, well, bleh... hah... yeah, it's pretty scary

Eddie Baker: Oh, so then we'll just stay here 'til morning.
Watson Pritchett: I'm sure we'll be mutilated beyond recognition by then.

Evelyn Stockard-Price: Stephen, if you really love me, you'll find a way to drop dead in the next second.
Steven H. Price: Oh but baby, finding ways for me to die is really your thing. Let's not forget the O.J. knife with the not so retractable blade, the Jim Jones kool-aide which was exactly that. Evelyn Stockard-Price: Accidents, all accidents until proven otherwise.

Lots of stars and recognizable faces in this one. Actually pretty much everyone is someone you will remember from something else. If that makes any sense at all.

I never really figured out what it was exactly about this film that scared me so badly when I saw it at the theaters. Maybe that is what makes it so great. Not being able to pin point an exact threat but the vibe is just plain creepy. I remember that there was a very large black man in the packed theater with me and J when we saw this and he practically had to be wheeled out from a panic attack. Now that is a good movie.
